Lincoln Memorial Wins SAC Softball Championship At Wingate
Lincoln Memorial softball earned their second consecutive South Atlantic Conference title.
Lincoln Memorial softball earned their second consecutive South Atlantic Conference title at Wingate Thursday afternoon (May 4). The No. 3 Railsplitters defeated No. 1 Wingate in the best-of-three series.
Lincoln Memorial began the day with a 1-0 deficit, as the Railsplitters had fallen to Wingate in game one of the Championship Series on Wednesday.
Lincoln Memorial’s Emma Frost and Sterre den Duijn led the way for the Railsplitters in Thursday’s first game. Frost pitched 5.1 innings and allowed just one run with five strikeouts. Den Duijn went 4-for-5 with two homeruns, one triple, three RBI, and four runs scored, highlighted by a solo homer in the top of the 1st inning. Lincoln Memorial won 14-2, requiring a second game to be played to determine the series winner.
In game two, Lincoln Memorial’s Katy Pozzuto’s RBI single to center scored Kelsie Tuggle in the 1st, marking the only run scored in the second game. Lincoln Memorial rode a complete game shutout by starting pitcher Hayler Tamaro to secure the championship crown with a final score of 1-0.
