WCWS: which state has the most players in finals? (6/2)
WCWS: which state has the most players in finals? (6/2)
Although the Women’s College World Series is down to two teams from East of the Mississippi—with Michigan representing the Big Ten and the University of Florida hailing from the SEC—you may (or may not) be surprised to learn that there are more players from California high schools still playing than from any other state.
Both schools have a solid core of players from their home states — seven from Michigan are on the Wolverines’ roster and eight from Florida are on the Gators’ roster — but there are still 12 in all from California as CalHiSports.com reported yesterday.
And if you’re a California fan who might pick sides, you’ll have a tough time since both Michigan and Florida have six each from the Golden State.
Here’s a list of the 12 players from California playing in the Championship Series:
Florida
- Nicole DeWitt (Pacifica, Garden Grove)
- Delanie Gourley (El Capitan, Lakeside)
- Justine McLean (Rancho Cucamonga)
- Kathlyn Medina (Downey)
- Aubree Munro (Brea Olinda, Brea)
- Janell Wheaton (San Dimas)
Michigan
- Tera Blanco (Marina, Huntington Beach)
- Sierra Romero (Vista Murrieta, Murrieta)
- Taylor Swearingen (Canyon, Anaheim)
- Lauren Sweet (Santiago, Corona)*
- Amanda Vargas (Tesoro, Rancho Santa Margarita)
- Haylie Wagner (El Modena, Orange)
