Puerto Rico Claims A Narrow Victory Over The Netherlands
Outstanding performances by Meghan King and Aleshia Ocasio put Puerto Rico on top of the Netherlands.

On day two of competition at the NaSPA Stadium in Narita Japan, the opening game saw Puerto Rico and the Netherlands, and the Caribbean team took the win, 6-5.
The first two innings proved to be hard for the Puerto Rico National Team as the Dutch allowed only 1 hit committing no errors. The Dutch were leading 4-0 after two innings, including a home run by Britt Vonk.
Then Puerto Rico managed to reopen the ballgame in the third scoring 2 runs, thanks to two hits and a Dutch error. Puerto Rico completed the come-back in the fourth, with a three-run rally for the 5-4.
One inning later Jessie Van Aalst homered to deep center field to tie the game, but Aleshia Ocasio answered with a solo homer in the sixth to fix the final score on 6-5.
In the bottom of the seventh Netherlands loaded the bases with two outs, but Meghan King escaped the jam after a long fly ball caught by Elizia D’Orazio in center field to end the game.
The winning pitcher was Meghan King who worked six innings in relief, allowing 1 run, 2 hits, and 3 walks, with 3 strikeouts.
Tomorrow Puerto Rico will face South Africa on Aug. 3 at 8:00 PM CT and the Philippines on Aug. 4 at 4:00 AM CT. The Netherlands will play against New Zealand on Aug. 4 at 4:00 AM CT.
