Delaware Earns 1-0 Walk-Off Win Over Elon In CAA Tournament
Grace Rudolph scored the winning run off the bat of Emily Blum in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory for the Blue Hens.
Top-seeded Delaware earned a dramatic 1-0 walk-off win over fourth-seeded Elon in game three of the CAA Softball Tournament presented by Primis.
Delaware improves to 29-14 and advances to face third-seeded UNCW at noon tomorrow. Elon drops to 28-21 after the setback and awaits the winner of No. 2 Hofstra and No. 5 Charleston in an elimination game at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow.
Grace Rudolph scored the winning run off the bat of Emily Blum in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory for the Blue Hens. Halle Kisamore led off the inning with an infield single to the shortstop before Kailey Christian drew a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. During the ensuing at-bat, Julz Garber singled to left, and Kisamore was thrown out at home. Cristian and Garber advanced on the throw, putting runners at second and third with one out before Blum’s walk-off.
Elon’s best opportunity came in the inning before, as the Phoenix had runners on second and third with two outs but could not scratch a run across. Drew Menscer reached on an error to begin the inning and then stole third two batters later, on ball four to Carley Davis. Subsequently, Davis stole second before the duo was stranded.
Until the top of the sixth, no runner had reached third base safely in an impressive pitching performance from both starters. Emily Winburn (13-8) and McKenna McCard went toe-to-toe through 6.0 scoreless innings. Winburn tossed a complete game for the Blue Hens, scattering three hits and striking out three. McCard completed 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits, and striking out a pair before being relieved in the bottom of the seventh.
